Norris Medical Library needs major upgrade
I read once in an article "comfort and atmosphere play a huge role in getting in a quality study session" which holds true in my eyes plus inspiration. I would like to feel more inspiration in our medical library. At UPC you get all that and more with such beautiful architecture and large spacious work stations, why has HSC stayed behind? aren't we all in the same Trojan Family? After my first year of graduate school at HSC I am very disappointed to see that not much work has been done to upgrade the campus but for the sake of…

Linking matlab with solidworks or get matlab simulink 3D animation toolbox
I seriously think that USC should get license for matlab simulink 3D animation toolbox as we(mechanical engineers) are given licenses for many other toolboxes. This will really help a mechanical guy to simulate complex mechanical model which may not be possible to do in any of the CAD softwares available in market or with USC. How it works? First a model can be made in any CAD software and then saved in .vrml format. A simulink 3D animation toolbox realize .vrml format files and then
one can simulate models with complex user-defined equations.

Enforce quiet areas.
There is way too much noise in the libraries at USC (especially Leavey). There is not a day that I go to the library that there isn't someone on their cell phone, listening to music loud enough for those around them to hear, holding full conversations with others... this all in the supposedly "quite areas", not the group areas. At my previous University, the staff would not stand for this. The staff of the libraries should be making rounds on these floors to check for this distracting behavior. This proactive approach is the only way to ensure that people understand…

Turn down the A/C in Leavey
It's just too cold to sit there for long hours to get work done. I am forced to lug around a huge sweater all day so I won't catch a cold while studying at Leavey.

Kindle ebooks for USC Students, Staff and Faculty
eBook readers are getting ubiquitous these days. I would strongly recommend USC Libraries to arrange Kindle ebooks for the Trojan Family! An option for 'Kindle Edition' next to every book available in the library can really improve the reading experience.

Move "Share this item" field
Move the "Share this item: Bookmark and Share" field in the Homer record. It's new placement (since the upgrade) makes clicking on electronic access a pain as it automatically opens.

Stay on the page I navigate too
When I go to a homer entry, I probably want to keep it there until I no longer need it, not until some timer returns me to the search page.

Install Chinese Input Method
Based on the fact that there are many Chinese students in USC(especially in engineering school), we need Chinese Input Method while using the computers in libraries. To be specific, I recommend Sogou Pinyin Input Method which is free and popular in China.

Rename the Printers
As an employee of Leavey Library it would be greatly beneficial to have the printers easily distinguishable. As of right now they have made it much more simple by naming them BASEMENT A, B, C, etc. etc. but individuals still seem to have a hard time figuring out which is which or will just hit print without much though. This clutters the touch screens and can cause a patron to run around the library looking for their job. If the printers had completely individualized names it would be much easier to direct them/have them find it themselves.

Group Computing Areas
Group computing areas that allow 3-4 students to work on a group project at a single larger computer.

Paper Slicer, Big Stapler
At the Reference Desk's in Leavey there are no big staplers. For larger jobs paper clips have to suffice. Also, the paper slicer for cutting flash cards, images, and the like is dull and frays the page while not cutting it. This should be replaced/sharped for ease of use of patrons.

Offer labtops for check out
Labtops can be checked out at Salvatori for 4 hours, but it is in the Southwest corner of campus. Another libary more northeast on campus could offer labtops to be checked out.

FOOD vending machines
On campus cafes and coffee shops are too expensive. Food vending machines with sandwiches, cup o noodles, trail mixes would do the trick. We can eat it outside since there is no food permitted in the libraries.

Upgrade Leavey
Make the atmosphere in Leavey Library more comfortable and inviting (repaint!). Make printing less expensive and constantly available (the printers ALWAYS break down). More outlets...etc.
